Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's):
1. What is the purpose of fasting in a lipid profile?
Accurate measurement of triglycerides requires fasting for 10-12 hours as food can cause temporary increases in levels. Only water should be taken during this time.

2. LDL Cholesterol vs HDL Cholesterol
LDL cholesterol, known as bad cholesterol, can block arteries while HDL cholesterol, which is referred to as good cholesterol, helps remove excess cholesterol from the body. Their balance predicts one’s risk of heart disease.

3. Can I drink water/coffee during fasting?
Only plain water may be consumed. Coffee, tea or smoking will interfere with test results.

4. What if my results show high cholesterol?
Talk to a doctor about making lifestyle changes such as exercises or medications prescribed. Repeating tests allows doctors to understand the progress after treatments are given.

5. Why am I seeing multiple ratios of cholesterol on my report?
Ratios like LDL/HDL and TC/HDL provide better heart risk assessment than individual values alone. For instance, an increased TC/HDL ratio (more than 5) means that there is an elevated cardiovascular risk.
